The lamb festival

La fête de l'agneau - Pyrénées Béarnaises - le site officiel

This is the youngest gastronomic festival of the Bearnese Pyrenees. Since 2012, this event is part of the "September in Béarn" series. Renamed “Pyrénées en Trans”, this lamb festival follows in the footsteps of the Etsaut Cheese Festival by paying tribute to farmers and their produce. Organized principally by younger farmers, the goal of this festival is to promote the area’s agricultural production. The lamb of the Bearnese Pyrenees merits special attention: raised according to traditional methods, such as the transhumance, this noble product remains little known (thus the spotlight treatment by the young farmers).

Held each year on the last weekend of August in Escot in the Aspe Valley, this festival invites food lovers to (re)discover quality lamb. The convivial atmosphere is typically Bearnese, with good food, live shows, polyphonic singing and music. Prepared every which way, lamb is associated with other local produce, including cheese and Jurançon wines! Every summer, for the space of a weekend, the intimate village of Escot at the foot of the Col de Marie Blanque becomes a centre of terroir produce.
