the cirque de Lescun

The photogenic Cirque de Lescun is a glacial cirque delimited by such legendary limestone summits as the Table des Trois Rois, the Aiguilles d’Ansabère and the Orgues de Camplong. The cirque is also known as the “Pyrenean Dolomites”. Alpine agriculture has shaped the foreground, with centuries-old and ever maintained mountain prairies, low rock walls and picturesque barns.
This beautiful landscape is also easy to get to for everyone from the village of Lescun. Lovers of heritage and Pyrenean architecture will be delighted to stroll about this village numbering a few hundred souls (over 1,000 inhabitants a century ago). In the village cafés, locals will happily relate to you the Battle of Lescun, honouring the cunning of the Lescunois pitted against the Spanish army. You might also learn about the old cross-border smuggling trade, or the Chemins de la Liberté (“Paths to Freedom”) via the Col de Pau pass.
